3 Signs Your AC Needs Repaired

August 25, 2022

Now that summer is in full swing, you're probably using your cooling unit on a daily basis. If you experience issues with function, you must schedule AC repair as soon as possible. Timely repair ensures that your home remains comfortable, while also helping you save money by improving efficiency. Here are a few signs that your unit might need to be repaired.

How to Tell if Your Air Conditioner Requires Service

1. Warm Air Coming From Vents

Air conditioners use refrigerant to absorb moisture from warm air. This refrigerant flows through a set of evaporator coils, which remove warmth from outside air as it blows over them. If the coils become damaged and the refrigerant leaks, it will affect your AC's cooling capability. A lack of air flow can also be caused by a dirty air filter, so try changing that first before scheduling repair service.

2. Moisture Around the Cooling Unit

A hose within the AC unit discharges condensation to keep it from building up inside. If this hose becomes disconnected or develops a hole, it can cause moisture to leak out of the system. Moisture can also result from ice building up inside the unit, which accumulates when the evaporator coils are not functioning correctly. Water leaks can damage equipment, but they can also impact other areas of the home. Fortunately, defective parts can usually be replaced for improved function.

3. Strange Noises Coming From Your AC

It's natural for air conditioners to make some noise while running. However, noises too loud to ignore or sounds you've never heard before often indicate an issue. Banging or clanking could signal that the blower fan has broken loose and is coming into contact with another component. On the other hand, a rattling noise may indicate a loose piece of hardware that hasn't yet come loose. In either case, you should schedule service immediately to get to the bottom of the issue.
