Fall HVAC Care

Alpine Heating and Cooling • September 16, 2020

Fall is an great time to perform routine maintenance on your heating and cooling systems, as you'll need it less often. This will also help you find any problems and ensure the heating system will be ready to warm your home as soon as the Ohio Winter hits. Here are a handful of ways to care for your HVAC system during this time.

Your Guide to Fall HVAC Care

1. Leave the Thermostat

Fall days fluctuate from warmer to cooler, resulting in making small adjustments to your thermostat more frequently. However, over-adjusting drives up energy bills and throws off the thermostat's calibration. Try using ceiling fans or open the windows on warmer days.

2. Replace the Filter

Even when you're not running the HVAC as often during autumn, the filter will continue to collect dust. Prevent allergy issues and burning odors when you turn on your heater for the first time by changing or cleaning the filter at least once per month.

3. Investigate Odd Noises

After working hard to keep your home cool throughout the summer, your HVAC may start to make unusual sounds. These often point to worn belts or faulty motors. Repairing these issues in the fall is usually cheaper as it’s “the offseason”, and it'll allow you to turn on your air conditioner without problems once spring arrives.

4. Clean Around the Unit

As trees defoliate, leaves, pinecones, and branches may collect around your outdoor unit, blocking the flow of intake air. Remove leafy debris to prevent inefficiency, elevated energy bills, and breakdowns.

As always if you need any service for your furnace please contact us at Alpine Heating and Cooling. If the furnace you currently have is not doing the job any longer we will give you a free no obligation quote on a new system.
