6 Indoor Cooling Tips for Summer

1. Use ceiling fans to assist your air conditioner

Reversible fans can be easily adjusted to improve comfort and temperature in your home depending on the season, pushing cool air down in the summer and pulling up warm air in the winter.

2. Partially close air vents in unused rooms

Though an air conditioning system is designed to cool your entire home, you can direct air to the most commonly used rooms by partially closing certain vents. This will allow you to save some money and provide additional airflow to the most used areas of your home.

3. Close those curtains

If your home either has a lot of windows or a few larger windows keeping them covered will keep help keep the sun's heat out which causes your air conditioning unit to work double time.

4. Clean your Air Conditioning Unit

Debris like sticks, leaves, flowers, etc... can get caught in your air conditioning unit causing it to under perform and potentially cause more serious issues down the road. This is a simple DIY maintenance task that you can perform that not only increases the efficiency and longevity of your system but will also help avoid calling us at Alpine for issues that could be prevented.

5. Set your thermostat higher

Contrary to popular belief if you lower your thermostat your air conditioner will not cool the house any faster. We encourage our customers to shoot for a consistent temperature on the thermostat (between 73 and 76 degrees) or consider purchasing a programmable thermostat to make adjustments for you.

6. Clean & change your air filter

Changing your air filter saves energy, improves cooling performance and lengthens the life of your HVAC system. Filters should be cleaned and/or replaced at least every three months or more frequently depending upon where you live.

The above tips should help keep you cool this summer but if you do happen to need an experienced heating & cooling contractor to help you in a time of need please contact us at Alpine Heating & Cooling as we appreciate the chance to earn your future business.
