5 Benefits of Replacing a Furnace in the Fall

Alpine Heating and Cooling • November 25, 2020

Why Fall Is the Best Time for Furnace Replacement

With the arrival of Fall, Old Man Winter is just around the corner. You want to be sure your furnace will be ready to take on the coming chill, which is one of the many reasons to handle a replacement now if the unit is due for one.

1. Flexible Scheduling

Winter is our peak season for furnace repairs and replacements. That means available appointments will be limited, and you might not be able to choose the most convenient time for your schedule. However, if you scheduling now can save you time/money before the Winter rush hits!

2. Better Prices

The best time to buy HVAC systems on a budget is during the off-season. We tend to run a little slower in the Fall & Spring and along with being able to accommodate your schedule we also are running specials from time to time that could you reallocate some of those repair/replacement dollars to that Christmas present you’re hoping to buy for the kids 😊

3. Winter Breakdowns

If your furnace is older and frequently needing repairs, relying on it for another winter can be a significant risk. Mid-Winter breakdowns are both costly and unpleasant. To ensure your home stays comfortable throughout the season, have your furnace replaced before Winter weather hits.

4. Convenience

In autumn, you probably won't be turning the heat on right away. Mild weather provides an excellent opportunity for HVAC system servicing. It's much less of a bother to wait for your unit to be replaced when you aren't currently relying on it.

5. Energy Savings

Homeowners have become more and more concerned about their energy consumption in recent years. Purchasing a system in the fall will give you time to research potential units so you can find the best one for your home. If you are like people you say “I just want it to work.” Reach out to us at one of the below methods and we would be glad to visit your home/office and put together a recommendation that fits your needs and budget to the best of our ability.

If you’ve heard people talking about “new refrigerant rules” for air conditioners and heat pumps, you’re not alone. Homeowners are wondering if their current AC system is suddenly outdated or impossible to repair. The simple answer is no — you do not need to replace your air conditioner just because refrigerant rules have changed. What Changed With HVAC Refrigerants? The HVAC industry is moving away from higher-GWP refrigerants, including R-410A, and toward newer refrigerants with lower environmental impact. Under the EPA’s refrigerant transition rules, many new residential air conditioners and heat pumps manufactured after January 1, 2025 must use lower-GWP refrigerants. Existing systems can still be serviced, and parts used to repair existing systems are not subject to the same restrictions as new equipment. For homeowners, that means your current air conditioner or heat pump does not automatically need replaced. Can My Current AC Still Be Repaired? Yes. If your system uses R-410A, it can still be serviced. The bigger question is whether a repair makes financial sense. As older refrigerants become less common over time, certain repairs — especially refrigerant leak repairs — may become more expensive. That does not mean every older system should be replaced, but it does make the repair-versus-replace decision more important. When Should You Consider Replacing Your AC? You may want to consider replacement if: -Your system is over 10–15 years old -You are facing a major repair -Your AC has a refrigerant leak -Your energy bills keep climbing -Your home has uneven temperatures -Your system uses older equipment that is no longer under warranty If your system is newer, running well, and only needs a minor repair, replacement may not be necessary. Don’t Panic — Get Honest Advice The new refrigerant rules are a real change in the HVAC industry, but they should not be used to scare homeowners into replacing equipment before they need to. At Alpine Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Refrigeration, we help homeowners understand their options clearly. Whether your system needs a simple repair, a refrigerant leak check, or a full replacement estimate, our goal is to give you honest information so you can make the best decision for your home.
