It's not the Heat...It's the darn Humidity!

January 19, 2022

Humidity is an overlooked but extremely important aspect in the safety and health of your home. Besides comfort, humidity impacts the health of your residence. Depending on the conditions, you will want to raise or lower the humidity in your home.

Wintertime brings cold temperatures. Cold air can holds much less moisture than warm air. So commonly speaking, cold air = dry air. During the wintertime, you may see condensation forming on surfaces. It is very essential to stop condensation from forming on surfaces in your home.

How to Increase Humidity in a House

There are many methods to increase humidity in a house. One is to seal off your home from the outside. Make certain that no cold, dry air is leaking in. You can also make sure that your HVAC system is not bringing in an overabundance of dry outdoor air.

Some additional things you can do is boiling water on the stove, using a spray bottle to spray water around your house, and leaving the door open when you shower. And of course, purchase a humidifier.

How to Reduce Humidity in a House

There are many ways how to reduce humidity in a house in addition to the obvious one of purchasing a dehumidifier. First identify the source of the humidity. Hot showers create a lot of humidity as well as kitchens around the sink. Then next step is to remove the moisture and speak with a professional on how to create a plan to continually exhaust that moisture in the future.

If the humidity is coming from the outside, then your home needs to be sealed better. Shut all your doors and windows, and check that they form a good seal when closed. Cracks around the perimeter of doors and windows are famous for letting humidity enter your home.

If you are in struggling with the humidity levels in your home don't try to deal with it alone. We promise it will only create headaches. Contact us at one of the below methods and we'd be glad to come out and speak with you about your options!
